2023 Asset Allocation
In mid 2000’s, I replaced the constituent funds in side the IFA 100 asset allocation with Vanguard index funds. At that time, Vanguard did not have an international small-cap index fund. Instead, I chose the Vanguard Developed Market Index Fund, which is an international large-cap style.
Here is that asset allocation:
Style | Allocation | Symbol |
---|---|---|
Large Cap Value | 12% | VVIAX |
Large Cap Blend | 12% | VFIAX |
Small Cap Value | 20% | VSIAX |
Small Cap Blend | 20% | VSMAX |
Real Estate | 5% | VGSLX |
Int’l Developed | 9% | VTMGX |
Int’l Value | 9% | VTRIX |
Emerging Markets | 13% | VEMAX |
Total | 100% |
Today, in 2023, Vanguard has an international small-cap index fund: VFSAX. Here is my new “Vanguard 100” asset allocation that includes this fund:
Style | Allocation | Symbol |
---|---|---|
Large Cap Value | 12% | VVIAX |
Large Cap Blend | 12% | VFIAX |
Small Cap Value | 20% | VSIAX |
Small Cap Blend | 20% | VSMAX |
Real Estate | 5% | VGSLX |
Int’l Value | 6% | VTRIX |
Emerging Markets | 13% | VEMAX |
Int’l Small Cap | 12% | VFSAX |
Total | 100% |
The changes are in bold italics. An Int’l Developed mutual fund has been replaced by an Int’l Small Cap mutual fund. And two allocation percentages have changed. Everything else is identical.
This post is part of an ongoing series on my investing career, which consists of three stages: design, grow and withdraw.
